2020 Governor Campaign: What Does Huntsman Stand For?

Posted on: 20 May 2020

Jon Huntsman Jr. is running for governor in Utah's 2020 election with Michelle Kaufusi as lieutenant governor.

Who is Jon Huntsman Jr.?

Jon Huntsman Jr. was born in Redwood City, California. His family soon moved to Utah, and he attended high school in Salt Lake City. As a young adult, he attended the University of Utah before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taiwan where he learned Mandarin. When he returned home, he obtained a bachelor's degree in international politics from the University of Pennsylvania. Early on in his career, he worked for the International Trade Administration and then went on to serve as the US ambassador to Singapore. Later, he would go on to serve as the ambassador to China and then the ambassador to Russia. He was elected as the governor of Utah in 2005.

What are Huntsman's priorities?

In any election campaign, the most important thing for voters to know is what their candidate's policies and priorities are. The Huntsman 2020 governor campaign has placed emphasis on economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, opportunities for rural communities, education, mental health, growth, state rights, air quality, and use of public lands. Here is some information about some of the most important issues for Jon Huntsman.

Economic Recovery

Huntsman is committed to helping Utah recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The economy will only just be starting an uphill battle to recover when the governor is placed in office.

Rural Opportunities

Rural Utah has less access to opportunities, including quality education and medical care. Huntsman wants to ensure that all Utahns get the best options available.

Education

Huntsman is interested in the education that Utah offers and wants to ensure that teachers are appreciated and compensated for their important jobs.

Mental Health

Huntsman wants to make mental health a priority for the state this next term. Now, more than ever, people are struggling with emotional and mental problems that can't be ignored.

Public Lands

Huntsman wants to see control of Utah's public lands returned to the state so that Utahans themselves will have a greater say in their use.

Air Quality

Air pollution is a growing problem all around the world, and Utah is no exception. Huntsman wants to help ensure air quality.

These are just some of the issues that Huntsman has highlighted in his 2020 campaign for governor. For more information, reach out to the Huntsman 2020 governor campaign.
